I have to focus on what takes us to the goal. That means greatly reducing or altogether eliminating the time spent on those things that are not going to take us to the goal. The goals are for me to be a professional web developer, to pay for school with cash, have a resale business, and teach the less fortunate how they can use their God given skills.
My school gave a week off for Thanksgiving break so I figured I would use it to work on business projects. Then I was sick on Monday and Tuesday, two days gone. And during those two days I again had to remember the goals. So these are the only business ventures I can spend time on at the moment:
- Driving Uber/Lyft (provides immediate cash for tuition payments)
- Continue at my part-time job doing website maintenance and some web development (provides immediate cash and experience) while applying for full-time web development positions.
- Freelance web development gigs
- Resale business. This is lower on the list because while it does provide cash, it isn't always immediate. It also requires an additional investment in inventory, whereas driving for Uber or Lyft only requires the cars we already have.
Since these can be my only priorities for now, this means I have to stop focusing on the handmade, dropshipping and affiliate marketing businesses. They don't lead us to the goal, and meeting goals is our priority. I will very likely work on them again in the future, but not until after the current goals are met.
