Change in my reselling mindset

This post may branch off a bit but bear with me.

I've become good at finding physical items to resell, specifically shoes, books and electronics. Several items I found for free on Craigslist or even on the street in people's trash on the curb. So recently I focused more on finding more free items to sell because the ROI is awesome. Then ebay shutdown my selling privileges. I started to wonder, could I do the same thing for website services?

Today I saw a video on Youtube about how some sellers on Fiverr use free templates, customize them and resell them. And they're selling a lot of them. At first I started getting shiny object syndrome thinking I could resell basic graphics. But then I thought, there's got to be nice free website templates out there I can customize and resell. One google search later and there were tons of sites offering free, really nice looking website templates. Some HTML/CSS and some Wordpress. All of which I can customize easily with added value to make them worth purchasing.

I've been experimenting in my handmade business with offering product lines instead custom products (thanks to Renae Christine), and I also want to try the same strategy with the web design business. My web business website has generated zero sales so far, so I might as well try a change.

So here's the plan for my businesses: sell product lines instead of fully custom items. Resell the free digital items my customizing and adding valuable features. My ultimate goal is to have a business I can run from anywhere. My husband and I have plans to travel, and we still need to make money while we do it.

Update: I'm amazed at how many people are selling free digital stuff. There's a shop on Etsy selling custom wedding websites that are hosted on Google Sites!
