Making changes in my education

I enrolled in Western Governors University to earn a BS in Software Development. The school is pretty cheap and the advisor/professors are cool enough. However since its a software development program, it requires that I earn certifications in hardware other non-web development related topics in order to graduate. I should've taken more time to consider this before enrolling. I want to be a web developer, not a software developer. My first two classes are for the CompTIA A+ which I'm not doing well in. I've taken the 220-901 exam twice and failed. I study for several hours a day and am doing worse on the practice exams now than when I first started. I just want to be a web developer and I don't need to be an expert in computer hardware to do so. So I've decided to withdraw and enroll at another school that I'd already been accepted at that doesn't require third party certifications to graduate. I called the school today to restart the process. I'll post about it once everything is confirmed.

All the web developers I've spoken to say that knowing how to code a website and a portfolio are what get you the job, not certifications. So there's no point in me stressing myself out and wasting time studying something that I will never ever use in life.

I feel stupid because I now I realize we (my husband and I) should've prayed about it more. I should be able to get a prorated refund for about half the tuition we paid. Something is better than nothing. And this is an expensive lesson. But I'd rather study something that I know will definitely help me reach my educational and professional goals. I'm a true believer in cutting my losses as soon as I recognize them and moving on.

In the meantime, I'm completing an online course on email development, as well as the curriculum for FreeCodeCamp.org. I'm already excited about making this change!
